Safe Harbour Society is seeking a full-time Detox Culinary Lead to oversee kitchen operations within our Medical Detox & Transitional Stabilization program. This role plays a key part in supporting recovery by providing consistent, nutritious, and recovery-oriented meals that promote physical stabilization and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality food service
Plan and prepare balanced, nutrient-dense meals for 20–30 clients daily
Develop recovery-focused menus that support withdrawal management and early recovery
Manage inventory, ordering, and kitchen operations
Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Services standards and food safety regulations
Collaborate with clinical and program teams to align nutrition with individualized recovery plans
What You Bring:
Culinary training or strong food service management experience
Experience leading a team in a fast-paced environment
Solid understanding of nutrition and its role in health and recovery
Valid Food Safety Certification (Alberta)
Nice to Have:
Experience in healthcare, detox, or recovery settings
Nutrition training or Registered Dietitian designation
Knowledge of therapeutic or specialized diets

Job Title: Medical Detox Manager
Main Purpose of the Job: The Medical Detox Manager is responsible for the operational, clinical, and quality oversight of Safe Harbour’s Medical Detox Unit.
This role ensures that all services meet provincial withdrawal management standards, align with funding requirements from Recovery Alberta and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction, and support recovery-oriented, medically supervised care for individuals experiencing substance use, mental health challenges, and acute instability.
The Manager ensures that clients receive safe, medically supervised withdrawal management, stabilization, and clear pathways to ongoing treatment and recovery supports, while maintaining strong clinical standards, reporting accuracy, and staff accountability.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Manager plays a critical role in strengthening medical recovery operations, advancing system consistency, and ensuring Safe Harbour continues to evolve as a high-performing, compliant, and respected provider of medical detox and stabilization services.
Role Impact: The role is central to ensuring Safe Harbour delivers safe, medically supervised withdrawal management and effective stabilization services—two of the most complex and high-impact areas of care within the organization.

Reports to: Director of Operations
Program Area: Operations – Medical Detox Unit
Key Relationships: The Medical Detox Manager operates within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and is required to build and maintain strong working relationships across clinical, operational, and community partners.
Internal Relationships:
• Executive Director & Director of Operations: Provide updates, escalate risks, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities and performance expectations.
• Medical Detox Team (nursing staff, supervisors, frontline staff): Provide leadership, clinical oversight, and day-to-day operational direction.
• Other Program Managers (Outreach, Navigation, Social Diversion, etc.): Coordinate client flow,
transitions, and service delivery to ensure continuity of care.
• People & Culture and Finance Teams: Support staffing, performance management, reporting, and
compliance requirements.
Clinical & External Relationships:
• Physicians and Medical Professionals: Work collaboratively to ensure safe, medically supervised
withdrawal management, appropriate clinical decision-making, and continuity of care.
• Recovery Alberta / Ministry Representatives: Ensure compliance with funding agreements, reporting expectations, and program standards.
• EMS and Hospitals: Coordinate admissions, discharges, and complex case management.
• Treatment Providers and Recovery Community Partners: Support transitions into treatment, recovery programs, and ongoing supports.
• Indigenous Partners and Community Organizations: Ensure culturally safe, respectful, and collaborative approaches to care and service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP – MEDICAL DETOX UNIT
• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Medical Detox Unit with a focus on safety, consistency, and
clinical excellence
• Ensure all withdrawal management practices align with provincial standards, funding requirements,
and internal policies
• Maintain structured workflows for intake, triage, monitoring, medication coordination, stabilization, and discharge
• Work with Senior Management on the effective use of Transitional Stabilization Beds as part of the
continuum between detox, hospital, treatment, and housing
• Support multidisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, paramedics, and community partners
• Ensure a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach is consistently practiced, supporting safe
withdrawal management and transition to treatment
STAFF LEADERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY
• Provide direct leadership to Medical Detox teams, including supervisors, team leads, and frontline staff
• Set and enforce clear expectations for performance, conduct, documentation, and client care
• Oversee scheduling and staffing to ensure safe and consistent coverage
• Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as required
• Foster a team culture grounded in professionalism, respect, accountability, and collaboration
• Support staff working in high-stress environments through consistent leadership, clear direction, and structured support
CLINICAL OVERSIGHT, DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING
This is a core accountability area of the role and essential for funding compliance.
• Ensure all clinical documentation is complete, accurate, and meets professional standards
• Oversee charting, assessments, medication records, monitoring logs, and incident reporting
• Maintain compliance with Netcare and all relevant health information systems
• Ensure all required internal and external reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
• Monitor key indicators including:
o Bed utilization
o Length of stay
o AMA discharges
o Transition outcomes
o Critical incidents
• Conduct routine file audits to ensure adherence to policy, clinical standards, and regulatory
requirements
• Use data to identify risks, strengthen operations, and support continuous improvement
POLICY, COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT
• Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, clinical, and safety standards
• Maintain oversight of medication storage, security, handling, and administration
• Ensure staff consistently follow protocols related to emergency response, infection prevention, and
clinical care
• Participate in incident investigations, risk mitigation, and corrective action planning
• Support accreditation readiness and ongoing quality improvement initiatives
CLIENT CARE & SYSTEM NAVIGATION
• Ensure clients receive safe, medically supervised withdrawal management and stabilization
• Support transitions to treatment, recovery programming, and appropriate community supports
• Manage complex cases, including crisis response and escalation
• Coordinate with Recovery AB, EMS, hospitals, treatment providers, and internal programs
• Promote dignity, equity, and culturally safe care for all clients
ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION
• Actively participate as a member of the Senior Management Team
• Collaborate with Operations, Outreach, Navigation, Finance, and People & Culture teams
• Ensure alignment across programs regarding client flow, safety, and service delivery
• Contribute to program evaluation, planning, and organizational strategy
Qualifications & Experience
Required License:
• Must hold an active, unrestricted license in Alberta as either:
o Registered Nurse (RN)
o Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)
• Must be in good standing with the applicable regulatory body.
• This requirement is mandated through funding agreements with Recovery Alberta and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction
Required Experience:
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in medical detox, withdrawal management, addictions, or acute care
• Minimum 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical environment
• Strong knowledge of withdrawal management protocols, medication administration, and recovery-
oriented care
• Demonstrated experience in clinical documentation, reporting, and compliance
• Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Assets:
• Experience with transitional stabilization, recovery, or housing programs
• Experience working with Indigenous communities
• Familiarity with provincial health systems (Netcare, ConnectCare)
• Experience supporting accreditation and licensing processes
